Subject:Need help identifying Artist
Posted By: Beth Sat, Feb 05, 2011 IP: 76.26.214.159

Hi. I am executor for my Mom's estate and am trying to identify the artist who painted a watercolor she inherited from her Mom. I've attached a photo of the watercolor and signature. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Not a watercolor. It's a Japanese woodblock print, designed by Ohara Koson. The title is "Leaping Carp" (Your picture is upside down). The print was published by Daikokuya. This design is checklist number K39.3 in the catalog raisonne of Koson's works, "Crows, Cranes, and Camellias". I don't know how to precisely date Koson's prints. Perhaps someone else can help with that.

Hi Beth, Have you already sold this, or would you be interested in selling it? Thanks.
