Hi,

The writting on the first photo is the name of a person + a date.

Second photo, means "presented to my parents..."
This would make sence only if there is a Buddha statue on top of the stone.

The date is in that period known as the Three Kingdoms. The Wei dynasty emperor had a dynastic title of Qi Wang Fang (Code: Big 5), the reign title of l began in 240 AD, so the date is 6th month, twenty second day of 243.

Thank you Pierre!
There is a buddhist statue adorning the top. Would it be possible to tell me the date inscribed as that would be most helpful.
Although Wei in style I dont believe it is anywhere near that old but I'm hoping it may be a later qianlong piece and not a modern copy.
Michael

Thank you Mikeoz!
You have got my attention. I have posted another pic and would love to hear any comments anyone may have.
The previous owner collected Asian antiquities and I purchased several items that positively dated as far from 1600's back to about 1100 and have since been sold at a major auction house here in the U.S.
This piece I held off thinking it was just too good to be true but after hearing the date on the inscription I am beginning to rethink myself. I mean it still has dirt encrusted in some of the carved areas and damages are very minimum? Opinions anyone?

Dirt can be added any time. Are some posts this message board about types of filth coated on porcelain to make look old.

Inscription can be put on any time, say anything, including if made 5-years ago.

Good luck,
Cal

Dear Michael, I love your statue with inscription. I have been researching my statue and it has MANY similarities with yours, above other examples I have seen. Sway of the body, lotus bud in left hand, double lotus base, facial expression and rendering, etc. What have you done for authentication on it? Please email me at [email protected]. I had a museum geologist tell me mine has limestone concretion, a major appraiser is on the fence but says its not an outright forgery. I am about to run a mass spectrograph on Ca and Mg atoms to prove its pure limestone concretion and no dirt.

I am sceptical about the inscription. It looks as if it were more recent. If it were that old, it would be darker than the surface. Further, I believe that the character style used in earlier type was different.

Under the great Wei (dynasty) from Three Kingdoms, 6th month, 22nd day (that character is the first on the other side).
These letters appear in archaic forms.
Michael, email me at [email protected], I have a 4' tall similar statue in this rare style. And want to help in authenticating the patina with uranium thorium isotope dating
