I'm trying to find out how old this vase is and if in fact it is called a vase. Any and all help would be sincerely appreciated!

Looks like it may be a fairly modern Japanese-style vase with a 'fuku' (good fortune) mark, which is shown upside down in your picture. Small images leave much to be desired.

Japanese ginger jar...probably around 100 years old
