Why are small close-up pictures being mirror-reversed?

The base of this 20th century Japanese bowl reads High Mountain Peak - but the picture is back-to-front.

Sorry for the 'reversing'. Must be the photo booth tool on the mac doing this.

The mark is Takamine, currently produced kitchen ware.
