Subject:Old celadon seal
Posted By: Tue, Jun 19, 2012 IP: 92.51.226.128

Cant seem to find anything like this anywhere ....
Maybe an artists seal ? the carachters are in 'seal script' and celadon appears early, it has the bubbles in the glaze (wood-fired kiln?)
Anybody any ideas on this one ?

Please post photo of the base, face on, so we can see what it says. This may help determine who it was used by, and possibly some indication of date.

Also here is a 'mirror' image of the mark.

The image on the left is the original, whilst the image on the right is the mirrored version (which should appear identical in form to what would have been the mark on paper)

A pic of the base of the seal and the second image is a 'mirror' reflection which should represent how the seal looks on paper

Definately looks Korean or Thai to me. The glaze is the type they used. And the clay has the pink s e Asian look. Whether its old or a clever repro I will leave to an expert.

Neither Thai nor Korean...it is old Chinese script, which does not mean that it is old.

To clarify... It is the glaze and clay that looks SE Asian to me... The seal script is obviously chinese
