Subject:Please help identify this beautiful piece.

I am truly stumped about this piece it is one of the most eye-catching pieces I have every encountered. The story about the piece I received, when it was gifted to me, was that it was presented to a official from the US by a Chinese ambassador over thirty years ago. It was reported as "old" then.

I'll defer to others to do a full translation of the paper, but in so many words it seems to describe the item as a lucky dragon image, just one among many such auspicious animals. This one may have been made at Shiwan, near Guangzhou (former Canton) in modern times.

Similar ceramic creatures were traditionally used extensively in temple and other construction in China, often as caps on the ends of roof tiles. Here's a URL to an earlier related thread on the subject.

Best regards,

Bill H.

This looks to hae been made in Taiwan, are you sure the ambassador wasn`t from the R.O.C. prior to 1972?
