Can someone help me take a look at this baby elephant piece and give me some feedback about it in regards to whether it looks like real jade or not. I have purchased it and it is heavy, looks nice, but I can't tell anything beyond that. thanks

Yes, this could be Nephrite ( Jade). It is modern, and I like those Tiger paws on this Elephant.

Thanks for the prompt response. I really like this piece super playful. Although I am not sure if the carver has ever seen an elephant before. When you say modern, what time period does that span? The seller claimed it was Ming or Qing dynasty. Can you share more details on how you assess this is a modern piece? I am interested in learning. Thanks, Sam

I have been 40 years in the Jade trade. I look at many different things, like stone, color, cut,design and a host of other things. I usually have an idea of what the item is within seconds.That all comes from thousands of hours of studying and teaching.There is no easy way of learning, but taking courses will save a lot of time and money in the long run.
Modern in this case is Obama's dynasty.

Looks like celadon nephrite, not actual white jade imo, but some may argue that this still falls under "white" jade. Reasonable to call it Hetian material, how does the touch feel? Rough? Dry? Silky? Greasy?

Nowhere near Ming or Qing craftsmanship my friend, but fairly decent details on the bottom. Late 20th century perhaps.

thanks for responding. This is a thick piece, I don't see occlusions when held under the light. It is light olive green in color. Greasy feel - a playful piece:)
