The mark may be read down in two stacks from the top right in Mandarin as 'Bai Yun Tang Zhou Bing Zhi' (Made by Zhou Bing for the White Cloud Hall).

The White Cloud Hall (Baiyun Tang) is dated to the Kangxi Reign (1662-1722) by 'The New and Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics' (2010) by Gerald Davison. This of course does not mean that your item, whatever it may be, is anywhere near as old.

Best regards,

Bill H.

While the foot looks Chinese, the decoration on your plate seems a bit Japanese to me, with its chrysanthemums and a couple of the "friends of winter" on the border, as well as a painting style with slight flow blue quality that hints of Seto ware.

Perhaps others have a better perspective on this possibility.

Best regards,

Hi all,

Bill nailed it ....it is Japanese Seto porcelain from Meiji period. The characters should be read as Japanese/kanji and says " Hakuundo shubei sei". This was used by Kato Shubei the second who lived from 1848 till 1903.

Regards,

Arjan

I'd hate to be accused of doing your basic research for you,but look at this website and judge for yourself.
