Subject:Help with Jade Urn
Posted By: Mon, Jul 30, 2012 IP: 68.202.181.145

Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me put a date on this jade urn. It looks like it was carved with hand tools, especially on the inside and bottom of the lid. The inside, bottom of the lid, and bottom have a reddish purple color to them with the red showing through the brown as well. If anyone has any thoughts on the type of jade I would appreciate that as well. It does test on a gem tester as jade. The urn is almost 10" tall, 6.5" wide, and 3.5" deep. If anyone needs anymore information please ask. Any help is greatly appreciated. I purchased several asian pieces over the weekend so I have a couple other posts. Thank you.

Sorry to say that this is from the Obama dynasty. It has been dipped in dye stuff to make it look old.By the looks of it, it is made from Serpentine, not Jade.

I doubt it is Chinese Nephrite material and far from the quality nephrite that are highly sought after out there.

The "old" look looks unnatural. Motifs are blur and lack of spirit. May be carved with hand tools but badly done.

Hope that the other Asian pieces are not of similar standards. Sounds like you may be starting a collection, keep these as tuition fee. I've paid quite a bit of tuition fee when I first started out. =)
