Subject:Korean Apothecary Cabinet
Posted By: Jim Wed, Oct 10, 2012 IP: 66.190.99.178 My understanding when I bought this cabinet about 30 years ago was that it is Korean, and an apothecary cabinet. Is this a correct assumption or am I astray? Tjanks for any comments, Jim |

Posted By: Jim Thu, Oct 18, 2012 Thank you Matt, any other details available, eg. age, meaning of characters on the drawers, are they for herbs? |

Posted By: Mat Fri, Oct 19, 2012 Yes herbs, roots, flowers but also dried animal parts and the like. The inscriptions on the drawers indicate what is inside unfortunately I can't read Chinese characters. For age I would say somewhere around the mid 20th century. Your chest is quite a bit smaller than the usual medicine chests, the wing top is quite unusual for this type of furniture as is this type of door on the bottom. |
