Subject:Help Identify Artist Name & Time Frame
Posted By: Joe Crimi Sun, Apr 14, 2013 IP: 68.103.202.58

My grandmother had this painting hanging in her home for many years. When she passed away, it went to my father and now to me. Would appreciate any help in identifying the artist and possible a time frame that it might have been painted.

attractive but doesn't look very old. It's a painting wishing long life to the recipient (the peaches, lingzhi fungus, and cranes are all associated with longevity in popular Daoism), traditionally given on birthdays, painted by someone (female I believe) named Zou Li at Fenjiang. Fenjiang is both a tributary of the Yellow River and a spot in Foshan, a city in the Pearl River Delta near Hong Kong which is now a huge manufacturing center. Given the commercial decorative look of the picture, I suspect it may be one of many pictures turned out by Chinese art graduates working for a painting company who are not able to find other work in their field. Just a guess though.
