Subject:Jiajing Dragon Bowl - Authentic or Later copy?
Posted By: Maire Mon, Oct 21, 2013 IP: 92.23.80.235 I recently purchased this porcelain bowl at an auction, it was very dirty when I collected it and after a wash has come out clean and damage free. |

Posted By: Krista Levy Tue, May 19, 2015 I think that this is an homage to an earlier style. It seems too clean for something almost 600 years old. The style and use of lines seems modern and too crisp. I've attached an (uncleaned) example; the piece is part of our family Asian art collection. It was positively reviewed for authenticity as a Ming Jiajing wucai piece of the period back in the 1980s and is currently being re-evaluated. It was an official gift after WW2 to my grandfather, Col. John B. Schmidt, probably from the Chinese community of Kobe, Japan. |
