Subject:Samantabhadra and Manjusri: Vietnamese Gilt and Lacquered wood statues
Posted By: NicolasVietnam Sat, Nov 09, 2013 IP: 113.172.6.74

Hello !

I recently bought this Northern Vietnam pair of lacquered and gilt wood statues (60cm tall) of Samantabhadra (Phổ Hiền) and Mañjuśri (Văn Thù) supposed to be from a temple not far from the old capital of Hoa Lu, near Hanoi.
I am particularly surprised by the raw style of the white elephant and smiley blue lion. I would be pleased if anybody could share his opinion about age and style of these statues.

Thanks, Nicolas

I post here the pictures of the second statue, Samantabhadra, already shown in a previous post.

Sorry for the previous posts with awful pictures I can't delete... I hope these ones will show better the quality of these Vietnamese lacquered sculptures and will bring some reactions on this forum ;) Thanks
