Subject:Large gold piece - Chinese? - signed on reverse
Posted By: Jimmy Sun, Mar 30, 2014 IP: 173.218.40.70

This is a very large, 22kt, gold shield(?). I'm not sure where it was made , or when it was made.
It was owned by a famous trombone player, Jack Teagarden. I bought it from his widow, in the 1980s. Teagarden obtained it when Louis Armstrong and Jack went on a tour to Thailand in the 1950s, to play for the queen of Thailand. The queen gave several momentum pieces to the Teagardens upon their return to the U.S. This could be one of them. The last photograph shows a photo of, what seems to be, three 'chop marks', or rectangles with some sort of marks. This gold piece is very old (at least back to the 1940s). Knowing the quality of memorabilia that Teagarden has, this could go back to before the 19th century.
It is 2 5/8" x 3 1/8". It weighs 59.63 grams.
Thank you, again for your help in identifying it. I am very curious.
Best regards, Jimmy
