Subject:Chinese Silk Scroll Painting Identification
Posted By: Kim Jernigan Tue, Apr 01, 2014 IP: 174.28.117.204

This is a scroll painting which I believe is on silk and was purchased in China around 1920. I would appreciate any help with its identification and the translation of the inscription.

The side note says it's painted by Jiang Qian Xi, a Qing Dynasty person, time between 1750-1870, and it's a mimickry of Song dynasty work.

Thanks for the information. My grandmother's sister was married to a naval officer, Asiatic Fleet, Yangtze River Patrol and probably purchased this scroll as a souvenir in about 1920. It is a lovely copy.

decent decorative picture that the inscription false signs as by Jiang Tingxi, who was an often imitated 18th century court painter; try comparing your image to the Christie's picture available on Google to see the differences.

Thank you for the information. The Christie's illustrations are very nice for me to see the style being copied for souvenirs. We now will have an answer when people ask about the lovely painting.
