Subject:Japanese Hallmark Identified
Posted By: David Downs Sun, Apr 06, 2014 IP: 24.246.177.165

Hi, I would appreciate any help with the hallmark and translation on this elegant porcelain bowel.

Also, any help with the porcelain style and age would be greatly appreciated as well.

The bowel measures 11 3/4" across and 3 1/2" deep.

Thank you in advance for your help.

David

Hello,
the mark of your bowl is generic and says "Kutani Zo", "made in Kutani", so it is Kutani porcelain. I think it dates to late Meiji - Taisho period.
Regards, Mat

Hi David,

What you have is Japanese Kutani porcelain and thats also what the mark says; "Kutani zo".
My guess for a dating; second quarter 20th. century.

Regards,

Arjan
