Subject:Little statue question
Posted By: J Mon, Apr 14, 2014 IP: 50.173.214.163

My dad was in the Air Force, and I believe he would go to Korea a lot, and or Japan not sure. I have these 2 statues, there were 3 but my brother took 1 I have the other 2, but they are really nice figures carved I think from ivory, but really I have no idea. On the bottom there is either writing or symbols. Maybe somebody on here can tell me what it says?

not ivory but plastic or resin. In Japanese the mark reads Kokusai. There was a Japanese netsuke artist working in the second half of the 19th century named Ozaki Kokusai, but this is a modern creation, no relation to that artist's works. I don't know whether a Korean artist with the same name existed.
