Subject:Hiroshige Prints
Posted By: Dave B Tue, Apr 15, 2014 IP: 68.84.176.148

My Mom passed away five years ago and I found these prints in an old box in her attic. No I'm not kidding, they were almost thrown out. The color and impression is great. Sorry I had to dial down the resolution to post.
The prints are 5"x7.5".

Has anyone seen these same copies before?

Dave

Dave,

You don't mention what kind of paper they are printed on. Given their small size, are they note cards/paper from a museum exhibition? I was able to find a larger 20th century version of one of them in Trocadero. Copy and paste this link in your browser:

I suspect all are derivatives of Hiroshige prints sold as souvenirs. The woman with lantern appears in several different versions most of which seem to date to the 1920s or 30s.

Cheers,
Stan

Thanks Stan.

They appear to be printed on silk and mounted to a paper backing.

Thanks again,

Dave

That is odd. I've never seen that before.

Cheers,
Stan
