Subject:Chinese or Japanese Square Ginger jar marked

The Jar measures 4 inches tall with cover and 4 inches square and has impressed mark on base.
Photo done at night with fluorescent light so photo is darker than original item. Thinking this might be from China but I have seen some japan items with this raised moriage paint type decoration also.

Your canister is Japanese, late Meiji or Taisho. Decoration and mark both look like they may be Kinkozan, a well known Kyoto studio.
