Subject:What are they?
Posted By: Ian Mon, Jun 16, 2014 IP: 217.39.47.118

Hi - I am trying to discover what these two items are. I don't even know if they are Asian they could just as easily be African, Indian or even Native American.
The more ornate of the two has bone, mother of pearl in the handle whilst the other has brass wires creating the decoration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

this two looks to me like islamic/turkish /middle eastern whips , maybe for camels or for horses but i am sure they are whips, the dark wood does look like it is an african wood (if it is heavy it can be ebony)
and the work on the other one looks like inlay work with painted bone or ivory (similar to damascus work but tribal made)
i would say they are from the late 19 century to early 20 century.

I believe these are used in the middle east when they train Camels!

Beating a camel with sticks like that, would't be a good idea.... camels don't forget or forgive !!!!
