Subject:Antique Chinese jars possibly song dynasty?
Posted By: Tyler Mon, Jun 30, 2014 IP: 99.242.159.154

I recently acquired these pieces at a thrift shop for 3 and 5 dollars respectfully just on the simple fact that they were old and for the low price I took a risk. I was just wondering if anyone could shed a light on to the origin and age of these pieces and what they would have been used for!

the smaller jar measures around 5" tall and the larger is roughly 6".

The glaze and bottom of the first jar seems to resemble pieces of the song dynasty but I am no expert, hence why I am here :)

thanks!

Not sure if they are even Chinese jars. The small one pictured looks like a 19th century American "harvest" jar I once owned. Such jars were used for holding drinking water, etc.

I think Robert is correct. They look like salt glazed stoneware, dipped in albany slip.
