Hello all, I was hoping for some advice, I am trying to research a celadon glazed double gourd shaped vase. If anyone could please look at the image of the vase and of the seal mark and give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. The vase is 19cms high.

My first impression was that the color was to blue but that can be caused by the light. So forgetting that and looking at the shape,... as far as I can see, that seems OK. Also the size is correct but most important is the execution of the mark. That seems very OK. I show you a picture of a simular mark of a mark and period vase which is, without doubt, from the same hand.
I like to advise you to contact a main auctionhouse (if you want te be sure) and in case you're not aware: .... such a piece can be worth around 50.000 pound.

Hi Simon,
Back again because your vase and the mark kept me busy. Even written by the same person the mark can't be that close so my conclusion is ..... it's the same vase.(?). Now I think your main question is .... "is it Imperial???". That's a bit hard for me to answer but I'm not sure if the execution of the footrim should fit the "imperial standards". Let's see if there are other opinions.

Thanks for both your replies, your information is very useful. I was unaware it was such a nice piece and potentially worth that sort of money. I took the vase to Christies King street and they said it was most likely an imperial piece, they commented that the glaze was good quality and the vase was of the period. I then took it to Sotheby's who said it was fake, I must say the person didn't really look at it very much and was very uninterested, at this point I was a bit puzzled so I took it to a dealer in Chinese items who said it was imperial and it was a good piece. I am inclined to go with yours + christies and the dealers knowledge.

Hi Simon,

This piece really 'looks' quite good from the pictures but for sure you'd better find a local person or auction company to get more info. Cannot be 100% sure just from the pictures.
