Subject:More Nephrite jade
Posted By: Michael O Mon, Jul 07, 2014 IP: 203.126.109.122

Here are a few more pieces of nephrite from xinjiang which I managed to obtain from my China source. Each is about 5 to 5.5 cm in diameter and 1 to 1.5 cm thick. They were sold to me at their original cost, which is a fraction of today's price and is still affordable to me. Even though they are new carvings, I was told again that the supply is now more and more scarce / controlled and dealers are jacking up the prices.

These new pieces may not be what some jade collectors go for but as long as they are the real thing, with beautiful carvings and are affordable, they are, in my opinion, good starting points for novice collectors and beginners like me.

Have a good day.

Pretty examples of "Sugar" jade where there has been mineral seepage into the jade material...The carver has used this to highlight carved areas..
Pretty carvings that are around the top end of modern small jade carvings.
The real pitfalls arise when you start buying antique jade (This is the natural progression!)

Hi Adam, thanks for the advice but I am sure that there are pitfalls when starting any collection. I suppose what you mean is that there are more fakes and fraud in the antique jade market and novices like me should not rush into it blindly. I have had my fingers burnt before and I am always grateful for such advice.

Most jade lovers would testify that once one is "bitten" by the jade bug, it is very hard not to want to expand one's collection. I am sticking to new jade for now but like you have warned, I am progressing cautiously towards older (not antique) jade. I collect only what I can afford and had picked up an old rectangular saucer-like piece which I will post in a new thread later to see your comments.

Thanks once again to Adam and Ernest for your time.
