Subject:Chinese porcelain vase ID
Posted By: willows Tue, Jul 08, 2014 IP: 75.49.250.232

I picked this up at a local thrift store the other day. The vase has a Yongzheng seal script mark (apocryphal?) on the base and measures about 11 inches high. The glaze appears too shiny to indicate any real age, but I am not an expert so any help the forum can offer would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, this vase with apocryphal six-character Yongzheng reign mark in overglaze red dates to the later Republic if not People's Republic era. Marks of this type weren't used at all during the Yongzheng period (1723-1735). There are differences in the painting styles as well.

I've attached some photos, beginning with an unmarked Yongzheng period jug with mother and child motif, as well as two others showing another vase of the same theme and general age as yours with apocryphal four-character overglaze red mark of Yongzheng.

Best regards,

Bill H.
