Subject:Scrimshaw inscription & marks
Posted By: Alex Sun, Jul 13, 2014 IP: 82.15.218.63

Hi

I have a small pot, probably made of bone, which has an inscription on it that I cannot identify, nor read. I have tried for several hours, but cannot even see if it is Chinese or Japanese artwork, though I suspect Chinese from the text.

There is also some writing next to what appears to be identifying marks in red, whereas the rest (inscription & artwork) are in black.

Any help in directing me to resources that can help me translate, or identify the motif in the picture, would be so appreciated - at the moment all I know for sure is that it was bought in Hong Kong.

Interesting. May we see the entire thing? It could help. The boy/carp pic. is common in Japanese art.
