Curious as to what this piece is. My cousin seems to think it's a worry stone, while I think it's a pendant of some sort.

Also, I'm curious as to whether or not this piece is real jade. My grandma bought her jade through reputable dealers, but this piece does not feel as cool to the touch, as other pieces of jade in the house. It does however pass the scratch test (blunt end of metal scissors does not scratch), and the piece also has a density of 3.00.

Is it possible that some pieces of jade are cooler to touch then others? Or is the pendant a fake because it does not pass the cool test?

Any info would be much appreciated!

The carving is a bit of the rough side, it was most likely made before 1990, and I too think that it is supposed to be used as a pendant, and it sure looks like Nephrite. Hope this helps.

This is an example of "kuei-kung" or "Devils work"
So called because the carving is seemingly impossible from a single piece of jade.
They are generally used as pendants but I have even seen them used as buttons.
Yours appears to be late 19th century, but difficult to be sure from photos alone...

It's better not to depend on the cold feel of Jade..other stones can feel cold as well. Plastics always feel warm.

this one is not new it is probably 1900s from the cut and style. best way to tell is to take a very clear photo of the piece area so that we can study the cut marks. Usually they are bored with a drill and than cut with a string . so you get one round drill cut with fine tool marks perpendicular with the cut. A string is passed through this hole and than it is tied to a bow and than with sandy grit it is used as a saw to create the rest of the cut, typically the tool marks run in the same direction as the cut for string cut. This jade can either nepherite or jadeite and rarely white opaque quartz or agate.

The other naame for devils work is "Ling-lung".... knew it would come to me!!!
