Subject:Pretty weird seal mark - marked Qianlong - but is it fake?
Posted By: Ross Tue, Jul 29, 2014 IP: 95.166.218.193

Hi all
My brother has a vase that he claims is chinese authentic from the Qianlong period. I am not so sure, I can not find any other seal marks painted this way. I can make out the words "Da Qing Qian Long *something* Zhi". I can't read the 5th word.

All marks I have seen have been in a simple handpainted stroke, not this traced/outlined style.

So can anyone help us find out if this is a repro or an original - and why is the mark painted with traced letters? Also what does the 5th letter say?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The word is likely "nian" part of the reign mark meaning "in"
likely full script reads "da qing qianlong nian zhi"
meaning made-in-reign-great-qing-qianlong
Note this doesn't mean its necessarily that old, to say that we will need images, as the Qianlong reign mark has been used from the 18thC to the present
