Subject:Unknown asiatic figure of a cricket
Posted By: Chinster Sun, Aug 03, 2014 IP: 77.185.149.159

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

does anybody knows something about this figure? It´s marked on the bottom, but I don´t know which language... Maybe chinese or japenese?
Is it a signature, a company mark or a title?
It needs restauration and size is 8,5cm x 4cm

Thanks in advance

Lovely bronze... I would suggest late 19th to early 20th (Meiji)japanese bronze.
Fairly deep natural patina suggests the earlier size.
The japanese market is fairly muted at the moment, but bronzes are one of the stronger areas.

IMO this is a very nice Japanese, Meiji era paperweight (presse-papier) of a cricket, signed 'Yôsen' (昜浅), followed by a 'kakihan' or artist's mark.

Guy.
