Subject:Kakejiku help!
Posted By: Fujin Thu, Aug 07, 2014 IP: 86.157.32.147

Hi!

I have just purchased this Kakejiku which depicts a White Heron with some flowers and foliage. I would really love to know who is the artist (If anyone here can read Seal Script) and what the calligraphy says.

Thank you in advance if you can help!

I should have posted a picture of the scroll in it's entirety to make the post a little more interesting! If anyone can help with the seal and calligraphy, it would be much appreciated!

Based on the seal, which appears to be SHU 龝 KA 華 and the signature above it (SHU abbreviated to 秋) I'd guess the artist is Takahashi Shuka (1878 -1952).

I really can't thank you enough Tom! I just had a quick google, and you are definitely correct. I'm fascinated to see that he painted a depiction of the A bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. Really, thank you so much!
