Subject:Inscribed Yixing Teapot Help Please
Posted By: Michael Tue, Aug 12, 2014 IP: 66.245.65.162

Dear Board Members,

Can you please help ID the maker of this Yixing teapot and decipher the inscription? I need to post more than 3 pictures which will require adding with a response to this message.

It is not an antique, maybe only 25 or 30 years old, and came from Wisconsin home where the previous owner had visited China.

The size measured from the tip of spout to the outside of the handle is 5-1/2 inches, 14 cm.

It appears well made; nice style, proportions, the lid fits very precisely, the inside has meticulous hand-scraping marks, and the teapot is very light in weight, only 152 grams complete.

There are marks on the base, under the lid, and under the handle I try to show in the pictures.

While not an antique it is a nice little teapot.

Any info of who made it and what the carved inscription reads is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Definitive answer awaits a better reader of seal script than me but the mark on the base seems to read made by Chen Guoliang (陈国良,born 1954). Not sure who carved the inscription, possibly someone using the name Shile, 石乐

Thank you Rat for your kind assistance. I will try to find out more about Chen Guoliang.

Hopefully a forum member will be able to translate the inscription.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Rat

Nothing wrong with your reading of the seal script.

We need better pictures before we can consider the inscription.

Best wishes

Thank you Mike Oz for your affirmation of the Rat reading.

I'm posting 3 pictures of the inscription, they are the largest permitted by the Forum constraints. The sequence of the pictures show the inscription starting at right (near handle) and going to the left (near spout).

Thank you for your kind assistance.
