Subject:Genuine Hongshan Jades
Posted By: Virgilio S. Sat, Aug 16, 2014 IP: 49.212.151.77

I have in my possession a few authentic Hongshan culture jade wares collected through 7 years of search, research and trial and error. Please take a look and let me know of your thoughts.

Is trading or selling permitted in this forum?

There is a total lack of bao jiang (that is always found covering the surface of authentic Hongshan jade pieces) on the piece you posted here. The carvings shown on the two holes of your bird especially its edges are highly suspicious to the point of being disappointing. The luster found on your piece is nowhere close to that of any authentic Hongshan jade pieces because such luster cannot be achieved by simply waxing but was a final product of years of manual polishing with animal pelts, grease. This type of superior luster found on many genuine Hongshan pieces cannot be achieved by modern high-speed polishing.

May be you should show us others of your "genuine" Hongshan pieces? They must be easier to find in Osaka.

Also, when there are only 300 credible Hongshan pieces which are mostly in museums, yet you were lucky enough to find several? I found that truly amazing to the point of being unbelievable or extremely lucky. It is almost like a person who would win a lottery of over 100M, not once but several times.

Now of course you may tell us that it was indeed a museum piece found on a book? Well, it still does not look like a genuine HS piece to me. No pun intended.

Your responses are appreciated.
We have to have in mind gentlemen that not all Hongshan culture jade pieces were crafted with so much perfection as those shown on museums. I understand the baojiang - lustre, qin, hole crafting, aesthetics you are referring, I studied them for years. There is indeed a very beautiful lustre in this eagle but probably not entirely displayed in the photographs.

I can assure you there are more than 300 Hongshan pieces, the limited number statement was an official advertisement to stop the manufacture of replicas and to protect the integrity of the Hongshan culture. But there are without a doubt genuine Hongshan pieces hidden within the common populace. If one tries hard to find them and is fortunate enough he will find them.

I will posted some more of my wares.

This piece is very beautiful but unfortunately it's broken and glued on the right wing, it has only 4mm of thickness, the craftsmanship is incredible.

Some more pieces from my antique jade collection. Please let me know of your thoughts. This one is a Shang dynasty thearch figurine, there is abundant blood "qin", I'm convinced it was served as burial object.

A Hongshan culture jade axe. Very smooth and aesthetic.

This one is less complex in form and craftsmanship but the baojiang and the whole feel it gives is quite pleasant to the senses.

If allowed in this forum, I'd like to let the interested know that I'm willing to sell these pieces privately, I have more in my possession, HD pictures and videos can be provided. Not going for an auction price but a very fair one.

Hi Virgilio S. (Virgilio Shu?),

Are the pieces shown here your TRIALS or ERRORS from your seven years of search, research?

One of the pieces shown above is exactly the same as the one offered for sale at the site below, for €100,000.00. Is this your vision of a very fair price, for the pieces which you are trying to sell off here?

Yes that is my website, I'm glad you have found it, I didn't want to post the link to avoid spam and advertisement.

I would not post trials and errors and call them genuine Hongshan culture pieces, that would be contradictory. To be honest I have bought nearly 1 thousand Hongshan culture jade pieces through the 7 years of search, and only 17 are deemed genuine. Please do take a look at my web there are high resolution photos available, a professional can easily distinguish a genuine from a fake from them.

The prices marked at the web are high auction prices based on official market setting (those who have sold in the past). It is logical to set the highest price first and then lower it as per request of possible buyers, final price is always negotiable. By fair price I meant something much lower than the auction price.

Good catch, Jac. This reminds me a while ago a OB/GYN doctor/jade expert/jade book writer posted his "genuine" Hongshan jade pieces here for discussion and then found out later his primary goal was advertising his so called Hongshan pieces that were on sales in his site. Unfortunately, not only he did not know anything about Hongshan, he did not know anything about jade especially jade material. That was being discovered during profound discussions between him and other members. He called a huge Neolithic piece made of yellow nephrite jade without knowing it was made of cheap serpentine. He did not know there was nephrite jade once mined in Taiwan. To make a long story short, he was not only disbarred but was also being sued for selling fake jadeite jeweleries at skyrocketed prices.

It is so sad that there are so many dishonest jade dealers out there. I had met a few myself.
