Subject:Set of three Japanese Paintings
Posted By: Fujin Thu, Aug 21, 2014 IP: 86.185.32.219

Hi!

I have this set of three Japanese paintings of Geisha, and I was just wondering if anyone here can tell me anything about them. They are painted on silk, and all three are signed with the same calligraphy and chop mark. I always thought they were Meiji period, but I would love to know any information, especially who is the artist?

Thanks in advance!

To be Meiji they'd have to be prior to 1913, which these are definitely not. They're tourist pieces common from the 1950s with quality decreasing through the 1970s. Yours appear to be of a quality circa 1960. Tons of them were brought to the U.S. by American troops during the occupation and the Korean and Vietnamese Wars.

Omg I was way off! Probably a dash of wishful thinking on my part, as I was hoping to flog them and buy some new kakejiku. Anyway, I'm glad I know what they are now, so thanks so much for that Joe!
