Subject:Chinese silver cylindrical container

Hello,
I collect interesting objects from yard sales and the like, and I found this several years ago and have not been able to discover any information about it. It appears to be silver, about 3" (7.5 cm) in height and it has a lid that lifts off. I assumed it was made for matches or something of the like.
My question is, it is an old object, or some type of reproduction? I've attached a few photos which will hopefully aid in identification.
