Subject:Manufacturing marks on modern Arita ware
Posted By: Ayla Yulong Thu, Aug 28, 2014 IP: 110.148.129.217

Hi all,

Smaller items of Japanese porcelain ware all have some sort of mark on the bottom, like an air bubble or hole. What does this mean? Am I correct in assuming it is from injection molding?

Pictured are a boat shaped incense holder and a chopstick rest. In the chopstick rest they have tried to cover the mark with a kiln-stamp, but it is still visible.

Regards,
Ayla Y.
