Subject:Chinese Jade-like Pendant
Posted By: Jim Fri, Sep 19, 2014 IP: 66.169.108.94

Modern Chinese translucent pale green stone pendant, carved horse, not jade. 2.56” x 1.97” x 0.225”, 34 gms. Specific gravity 2.45. Scratches glass. I am hoping the jade comunity can identify the atone for me. First photo faithful to color. Second photo adjusted for detail. Thanks for any suggestions, Jim

when you test the S.G. ..when you emerge it in water, you must shake the carving under water, so that there are no air bubbles, because otherwise you get the wrong reading. Let us know if that changes things.

SG too low and too translucent to be jade. I am surprised it can scratch glass. May be bowenite since it dose not look like agate or quartz

Hi Ernest and Super, thanks very much for your input. I found a stone in the bowenite group, antigonite, with similar color, but hardness is still a problem. Ernest, I am familiar with the impact of bubbles on a specimen in a SpG test, it was not a factor. Thanks again, Jim
