Subject:Bamboo wrist rest with landscape and poem

This is a bamboo wrist rest and from what I have learned so far the poem may be in traditional chinese. Can anyone help me identify a time period or what the poem says?

Cyclical date equates to 1979 or perhaps 1919, the aphorism reads something like "ice and snow rouse the high branches", which is a metaphor meaning something like "adversity makes the true man rise to the challenge"

the reverse inscribed with the surname Zhao.
