Hi,
I appreciate if anyone could help me translate the inscription on this seal.

Hello there I am by no means an expert or even able to read chinese but I have been studying alot of chinese seals lately and I believe this says "qianlong period make" if your rotate 90 degrees to the right. I have no clue what it says on the side but qian long reigned from 1736-1795

confirming John's interpretation: the base reads "the years of Qianlong", the sides a some high-falutin' inscription in a seal script variant. this is a new seal though, no connection to the Qianlong reign

Yes, it does say QianLong zhi nian, but it is a modern creation for the unsuspecting tourist.

A careful examination of the two side inscriptions shows (1) the sides were finished off rather roughly; you can still see the grooves from the grinding. And (2) someone has written the characters with something black - probably some kind of felt tip pen, then worked away the negative surface with an electric grinding tool.

It would make a nice and attractive paper weight. I know, I have a couple similar, myself.
