Subject:Poss. info on date and Kiln of Blue and white Kutani?
Posted By: Norman Fri, Oct 03, 2014 IP: 36.37.237.15

Here are two vases I purchased. They are blue and white Kutani's. I have looked all over for an example and can't fine anything close except the border which seems to be More Imari? If anyone has any information on these I would Appreciate it.

I wonder if those might be sake pourers (tokkuri) instead of vases. Here's the link to an eBay listing with a pair in a different palette but the same form of bottle. You don't mention size, but the tokkuri that came with saki sets for personal table use were usually around six inches tall. A lot of them were made as gift wares to satisfy demand in US military exchange stores around Asia during the third quarter of the 20th century. Your pair painted in the Chinese style might be earlier but still probably 20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.
