Subject:Chinese or Japanese coin/medallion?
Posted By: Ellie Mon, Oct 13, 2014 IP: 83.195.83.137

Hello. I'll admit I'm new to this site.

I was wondering, I've had this coin for a while now but I've always wondered is it Chinese or Japanese?

Can anyone translate it for me please?

Thanks, Ellie.

Hi Ellie, You have a coin from Annam (present-day Vietnam). Here's a bit of information:
Issued in Annam during the reign of Emperor Tu-Duc (1848-1883), value 50 van, undated but issued between 1848-1883. Obverse reads: "TU-DUC BAO SAO". Reverse reads: "CHUAN NGU THAP VAN". Regards, Tom
