Posted By: Stan Fri, Oct 17, 2014 This is a Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada. It dates from the late 1840s. I will get a better date when I get home to my references. It is in tough condition. |

Posted By: rat Fri, Oct 17, 2014 This one's Japanese and not in good condition, by one of the Toyokunis, the other print is Chinese. I suspect that if you repost as a Japanese print you will get identification from one of the Japan experts here. |

Posted By: Guy Mon, Oct 20, 2014 The signature reads 'Kunisada aratame nidai Toyokuni ga' (Kunisada changing his name to the second Toyokuni). This signature was in use by Toyokuni III (aka Utagawa Kunisada I)between 1844-45, whereby he ignored the fact that Toyoshige (aka Toyokuni II)has used the name Toyokuni for more than ten years and he was the third of this name in reality. |
