Posted By: Rémy DOUKHAN Fri, Oct 17, 2014 Your painting is japanese, not chinese. It's a copy of a woodprint by the famous Hiroshige, called "the 38th station"(Okazaki). It's the road from Edo to Kyoto, called "the Tokaido"which has 54 stations.Woodprints were on paper,so your"painting" must be a kind of photograph.Sorry but i'm afraid it has no great value. Posted By: Stan Fri, Oct 17, 2014 This is a copy of a Japanese woodblock print by Ando Hiroshige. It is from the Hoeido edition of his 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road series. It is station 39 - Okazaki. The original print was done in the early 1830s. Your silk copy could have been done anytime since. |

Posted By: rat Fri, Oct 17, 2014 This is Japanese, the original being a woodblock print by Hiroshige showing stage 39 of the Tokaido road (between current Tokyo and Kyoto). If yours is on silk it is a modern reproduction; woodblock prints were made on paper instead. Can you share the dimensions of the image? That may help others who know more about these. If you are removing the frame and this is indeed a woodblock, the margins of the paper on which it is printed may include seals that identify the publisher, so posting pictures of those will also be informative. |
