I acquired two matching Blue and White hexagonal bowls from a local secondhand shop. Are they Japanese and for what purpose were they used? They measure approx. 6.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches high with alternating panels of thistle and bamboo. There appears to be an oxide wash applied to the foot rim. These bowls do not appear to be transfer printed; the same signature appears on both bowls, but are not carbon copies but actually individually signed. Any info as to the identity of the artisan, country of origin, age and usage would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
