Subject:Lotus flower shape Kangxi marked bowl

The bowl pictured below measures 3" high and 5 1/2" wide. The design is painted with underglaze red and blue. The glaze has the bluish tinge I normally associate with Chinese export Imari but the pattern is quite unusual. Could it be it Kangxi period?

I once owned a bowl of similar size, shape and decoration that I'd bought from a private collector some years ago. In researching it, I found that another such bowl had been sold at auction in April 2008 for $425 against estimates of $800-1000 by Eldreds of East Dennis, Massachusetts. It was described as having been in the collection of Warren Cox (1895-1977), a prominent American gallery owner and connoisseur of Asian art, whose 1944 two-volume "Book of Pottery and Porcelain" had achieved double-digit printing status by the mid-1960's

Neither Eldreds nor my source for the similar bowl offered any clue as to a date of manufacture, and my best guess was that mine was probably no older than circa the early Republic period. Here are some pictures of it for comparison.

Best regards,

Bill H.
