Subject:Chinese ceramic polychrome boddhisatva
Posted By: Guy Sun, Nov 23, 2014 IP: 91.176.195.48

I would like to know more about this seated boddhisatva holding an object with a branch of red coral.
I presume the statue must be Chinese, mid 20th century.
It's in the family for around 40 years.

Thanks for your help.

Guy

My guess would be early Republic Era (1912-1949), or possibly later if the image was made in Taiwan. Religious figures such as this might have been considered politically incorrect on the Mainland around the mid-20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill. Taiwanese origin is very likely. The piece was bought there around 1970.

Guy.
