Subject:Yongzheng Vase
Posted By: scott Wed, Dec 17, 2014 IP: 50.154.39.160

Hi All,
I recently ran across this vase which I am considering purchasing. The price is reasonable. Aesthetically, it is a very pleasing piece, but I am uncertain if it is authentic. It appears to be very well done. You will also note the mark is Yongsheng. The glazing is also really high quality, but because of it I do not see any age related imperfections i.e., rust spots, etc to confirm dating. Any thoughts or insights into this vase would really be appreciated. Please also explain your thoughts so I can learn from and understand better your reasoning. As always, thanks in advance.

This is a late 20th century or subsequent transfer-decorated vase of average quality. The Yongzheng mark is part of the decoration. It looks from the thick foot like one of the heavy pottery blanks that was probably reglazed as part of the decoration process. If you like it fine, but don't buy it for investment or at a big price.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Dear Scott
In my humble opinion this is a new item likely to be very late 20th century
Hope that you haven't bought it
Kind regards

20th century imitation, if not more recent. Familiarize yourself with genuine pieces in museums and Sothebys/Christies catalogs before trying to buy anything.

The vase didn't have that "feel" when I examined it which is why I came here first. Thanks for your help. You guys are the best!!

Scott
