Subject:Help in translation!
Posted By: Bill Saathoff Fri, Dec 19, 2014 IP: 66.182.243.26

Appreciate any help in translation the photo. It is on a small purse that we bought in Japan and have damaged and was hoping it is a brand name that I could track down for a replacement.

Many thanks and appreciate any help

I'm offering this translation in good faith, on the chance that your purse actually may be an antique, thus in keeping with forum purposes. The tag says "Hall of the Wind God", which may be Romanized in Japanese as Fuujindo or "Fujindo", with the characters (風神堂) being the same in either case

If you try to find a Japanese business on the internet using the Romanized versions, do not conclude that anything is relevant unless the same characters are present, and then verify that the place makes or sells purses and not crackers, which was the case with a Google response I got. Also, while you may have bought this item in Japan, certain aspects of the characters on the tag resemble the Korean style of calligraphy, and I have no idea how this name would be pronounced on Korean.

Good luck,

Bill H.

if you run the characters through Google and search on images there are indeed a number of Japanese bags that show up with this label, but given my repeated mistakes with Japanese pronunciations I thought it better not to try what you have probably already gotten right!
