Subject:Help with Ink Box- old but no mark
Posted By: MRC Sat, Jan 03, 2015 IP: 98.208.220.50

Need help with age of ink box. Has purple stains inside. Shows signs of old age, rust spots etc, but No markings that I can see. Can anyone tell what period this may be from? Much appreciated!! Thanks.

Your box is Chinese, probably made about 1900 or later. My impression is that porcelain in this and related "children" motifs usually were better painted before that time and often bore Tongzhi marks, as is the case with this late 19th century saucer, which itself probably dates to the Guangxu Period (1875-1908).

Best regards,

Bill H.
