Subject:identification help?
Posted By: Nicole Tue, Jan 06, 2015 IP: 99.251.255.177 Hi there, just wondering if anyone can read this script? There is a large character on the front and then more on the side. Is it the artist's signature? |

With your photo flipped 90 degrees to the right, the four kanji characters 富貴長命 form the blessing "Fu Ki Cho Mei", meaning "Riches, Honors and Long Life". It is equally propitious as "Fu Gui Chang Ming" in Chinese, which language spawned the phrase. If I'm wrong about its origins, my second guess would be made in Taiwan, a former Japanese colony, circa mid-century. |

Subject:Cantonese 因住对脚
Posted By: Super Sat, Jan 10, 2015 It was written in Cantonese and therefore people in Shanghai would have no idea what it meant just like if it was written in Shanghaiese I would be totally lost. I posted my translation in your original request too. |
