Subject:Please Help Date Washer(?)...
Posted By: Joanne Fri, Jan 09, 2015 IP: 73.197.133.9

Hello,

I tried my best to research what I believe to be a lobed brush washer(?) prior to coming to this forum asking for assistance. Not sure if I'm correct, but if I'm wrong (most likely am), can someone please correct me and help date this piece?

I believe the runny monochrome glaze is called copper-green, and the iridescent hue throughout the surface only forms on wares over a long period of time. The foot appears to have remnants of six stilt or spurs marks. Such marks were common on Chinese ceramics up until Ming Dynasty and not so much found on ceramics thereafter.

My best guess on the dating of this piece would be Ming Dynasty,....but I'm probably wrong. Can you please help? Size approx: 9 x 2-1/4 inches.

Kind regards
