Hi again...I was really hoping for advice re my fishbowl as already posted, but on checking back realised that translations of inscriptions are more the sort of thing that might get replied to. And I have a few inscriptions I'd appreciate help with too. So I'll start with this little painting of a bird.

It's actually inscribed verso with "Miss Hoppen", her address, and "36 each". The writing looks C18, but the paper (which is almost more a stiffer 2 layered card) isn't C18. I think it's early C19 and it doesn't jump out at me as being oriental at all, although I'm not well versed re Oriental materials. It could be someone painting in a more oriental style. It may have been painted by the Miss Hoppen, unless she was just the owner then. But it is a little surprising that the inscription would be oriental and look natural too.

The inscription should clarify things, I'm hoping. Is it possible someone could translate it for me? It would be much appreciated. Thanks Jo

looks like an attractive Japanese print, but probably more recent, maybe early 20th century. I suggest that you repost as a "Japanese print" to attract Stan, Guy, or someone who can identify your artist.

Inscription seems along the lines of 冲X迂人，the seal 哥齋多? but someone else will have to pick it up from there.

But since you seem you think "Japanese" specified art work might get attention, I'm going to post another query re some strange Japanese processional scene watercolours I also have first. There's nothing to translate and they all have little descriptive labels in English, but I still don't know what the labels really signify. They're very interesting beasties regardless of the very iffy condition of some. If someone could provide information re those, that would be wonderful. And I'll look at what I can find re the characters you've shown me in the meantime. Thank you

Not a reply but an addition to the first post, in the hope that someone might reply, because there doesn't seem to be an "edit" facility otherwise.

I hadn't looked at this for a long time, but having done so again now, am suspecting this may actually have a print base (stone litho?) of possibly more than one colour. The colouring is too simplistic unless intended for reproduction. And some strokes of what I had blithely assumed was paint aren't cleanly defined enough. Then again other marks do look painted, so it could be a combination. I'm not usually unsure, but it's still quite sweet. Does anyone happen to recognise it? And I'd still really like to know what that writing says if anyone knows.
